Acropora carduus - UC True "Red Dragon" Acropora - Stock Frag- You Pick Size!

Availability: In stock

Acropora carduus-  UC True "Red Dragon" Acropora-  Stock Frag-  The real deal! This attractive branching Acropora features a beautiful skeleton with excellent red color! Shown is one of our amazing mother colonies which the frags are taken from. If you make it happy, this coral will really put on a show over time!  LOADED with "Centerpiece" potential! These UC premium frags come from highly sought after maricultured parent stock and are colored up over time in our facility to a rich reddish pink. They do quite well in captivity and grow fairly quickly.

Although they do not encrust in as robust a manner as other Acropora types, they will put down some skeleton on the frag plug. Rest assured that each and every Red Dragon that we ship has been propagated and grown out in our facility for weeks before it's available for sale. We will never send you a freshly cut frag! Occasionally, a frag will break off of the plug or have a branch tip or two snap off during shipping. This is a byproduct of their unique and rather delicately-branched morphology. While unfortunate, this is seldom detrimental to the overall health of the frag. In fact, we encourage you to secure the broken off tips to a rock or frag plug and grow out another specimen. Please pick the size you would like below from the three sizes listed.

CARE LEVEL:  Intermediate

PLACEMENT: On Rockwork or Rubble

WATER MOVEMENT: Moderate-Strong

LIGHTING:  Moderate-Bright

HUSBANDRY NOTES: We keep this type of Acropora about 16" under  20k 400 watt Radium metal halide lights. We feed them several times a week with oyster eggs and other meaty, marine based foods. We have noticed color improvement and more rapid growth since we began utilizing "Triton Elementz" balanced 4-part solution on our growout raceways. We believe that the combination of lighting and stable water chemistry (with an emphasis on a daily trace element replenishment from the Base Elementz), coupled with regular feedings, has had a significant impact on this coral's health and appearance.

NOTE: You will be purchasing a coral similar to the one in the photo. Because we spend less time photographing and uploading "stock" items, we pass the savings on to you! If they are on the site, they're always ready to ship!

The genus Acropora contains some 150-odd species of stony corals. They are one of the major reef-building coral species found in nature. There are numerous growth form variations, ranging from delicate branching specimens, to massive plating varieties.  We always have a great variety on hand.

Acropora may be quite demanding in terms of their care, requiring good measures of water movement, lighting, and food, not to mention stable environmental parameters. Water movement is perhaps even more important than lighting, as photsynthesis and respiration are strongly correlated with the intensity of water movement.

Lighting is very important to these corals, and is he subject of much debate among reefers. The bottom line: Acropora categorically favor moderately high to very high light intensity. You can achieve this through application of T5, metal halide, or LED lighting technology.

Acropora are surprisingly “hungry” corals, and will maintain optimum coloration, health, and growth. In addition to commercial phytoplankton and zooplankton feeds, these corals benefit from…well- fish waste! By feeding your fishes regularly and heavily, their waste products help supplement the nutritional needs of your Acropora specimens.

To grow healthy colonies of Acropora, it’s important to maintain high water quality in the aquarium. This means a high pH, consistent alkalinity and calcium levels, and barely detectable phosphate and nitrate levels.

Acropora require moderate to high levels of alkalinity and calcium, which can be administered via either 2-part buffer solutions or a calcium reactor. Magnesium is also important to Acropora, and can generally be supplied via frequent water changes with a quality salt mix. If magnesium levels are still low, as indicated by a test kit, it may be supplemented via commercially available products.
