If you ask almost any reefer, they’ll tell you that what got them into the hobby to begin with was…fish. We’re no different, and that’s why we’ve curated a collection of fishes that we think just about every reefer will love. They’re not just a side show or accessory to us- they’re an integral part of the reef aquarium.

Our fishes are hand-selected from what we feel are some of the best sources in the industry. Every fish we offer is considered for its suitability, hardiness, and adaptability to aquarium life.  Many of our fishes are captive-bred from sources such as ORA, while others are net-caught from conscientious, sustainably-minded purveyors in Australia and Indonesia. We make every effort to offer only healthy, vibrant fishes that meet our stringent standards for quality and consistency- at competitive prices.

Fishes are kept in our specially-designed holding system, with comprehensive environmental control and management protocols in place to assure stable, consistent  conditions. We make every effort to assure that each fish is healthy, adjusted, and eating before it’s offered for sale.  Our customers have come to rely on us for high standards with our corals, and can expect the same level of diligence with our fishes. When you purchase a fish from us, you can enjoy the ease of mind provided by our 14-day guarantee.

The majority of the fishes on our site are “stock”, unless noted. This means that the photo on our website is representative of the fish you can expect to receive from us. Others are true “specimen” fishes, and you’ll be purchasing the actual fish shown in the photo. If a fish is a WYSIWYG, we will indicate this in its description.

At Unique Corals, fishes are as special to us as the corals are. We wouldn’t have it any other way.

  1. Acreichthys tomentosus - Matted Filefish - 1.5- 2" Net Caught Specimen
    $38.00

Acreichthys tomentosus - Matted Filefish - One of the more endearing Filefishes, the Matted Filefish  is a comical -lookig fish with a peaceful demeanor and relatively outgoing personality. Much excitement has been generated about this fish recently, becuase it has the reputation for eating the pest anemone, Aiptasia. Although they may consume these anemones, they do pose some risk to other sessile reef invertebrates, including stony and soft corals, so we cannot give them a 100% "reef compatible" rating. Regardless, they may be worth experimenting with in a large reef aquarium. Fun to watch in groups, as they display interesting social interactions. Eats most frozen foods without hesitation in our systems. This fish can reach up to 3.5-4  inches in length.

  2. Amblyeleotris randalli - Orange Stripe Prawn Goby - Approx 1.75" Stock Specimen
    $24.00

    Out of stock

Amblyeleotris randalli - Orange Stripe Prawn Goby - Stock Specimen-The Orange Striped Prawn Goby is one of the more personable members of its genus. Although it spends a lot of time hovering in the water column, A.randalli spends much time sifting through the sandbed in search of tiny invertebrates, which comprise much of its natural diet. It should be maintained in a well-established aquarium, stocked with lots of live rock. It may take several days for it to begin eating following acclimation.

Ours are consuming prepared foods, such as brine shrimp and mysis. This relatively peaceful omnivore is an excellent choice for the reef aquarium.  A curious and active fish that can become a real "pet"!

    SIZE: Approx. 3"

  3. Assessor flavissimus-Yellow Assessor- ORA Tank Bred- Approx. 1"-1.5" Specimen
    $56.00

Assessor flavissimus -Yellow Assessor- ORA Tank Bred Specimen-  If you had to ask us what one of our favorite reef fishes is, the Yellow Assesor would be it! These gems are captive-bred by the specialists at ORA. In addition to being gorgeous, they are far more affordable and, in our opinoon, a better sustainable choice for the reefer than wild-caught specimens. Although many reefers seem to think that Assessors are Dottybacks, they are not a member of the Dottyback family. They are superficially similar to them in many ways. The Yellow Assesor is native to Australia and is a member of the Plesiopidae (Longfins) family that includes the Marine Betta (Comet). They are not nearly as aggressive or territorial as the Dottybacks, and feed on small zooplanktonic crustaceans.

They are fascinating fish that exhibit unusual behavior. In nature, as well as in the reef tank, they can often be found swimming upside down. This is an adaptation used in their habitat where they’re usually found in caves or under ledges. Creating a similar habitat in the aquarium will allow them to exhibit this unique swimming behavior.

The Yellow Assessor will not bother invertebrates in the reef aquarium and will accept most frozen and dry prepared foods. All in all, one of the coolest fishes you can keep in a reef system!

    CARE LEVEL:  Easy

    TEMPERAMENT: Very Peaceful

HUSBANDRY NOTES:  Feed with a variety of meaty foods, such as mysis, chopped scallop, and other commercial preparations. May be kept in small gorups in an aquarium with lots of rockwork and overhangs. They really do well in this type of setup.
